SOCIAL MEDIA HUB

A place for those both interested and concerned.

-AN OVERVIEW-

Social Media is changing the world by storm, and its effects can be felt throughout language, and cultural barriers. I have been researching into the effects of social media on its users through all demographics and have come to some startling conclusions. Did you know that the average youth user spends eight to nine hours a day perusing the platforms. This is the also what the surgeon general recommends you should sleep each night. This along with an increased rate of depression in youth who spend more than two hours of time on social media can make social media seem almost terrible. Before you go deleting your accounts there are a many benefits to the giant platforms that may sway social media back into the bright side. These platforms allow for an increased political involvement in the youth and poor and allow for people to find support groups. Social media also helps allow for people to meet new people and network themselves to the public and companies looking for new employees.

-The Pros-

Social Media allows for a variety of postitive benifits for the user such as an increased awareness level that most users wuldnt have gotten if not on social media. Social media has been proven to increase the ability for the youth and disadvanteaged to become more inviolved with political matters. Users through social media gain the ability to freely express themselves and thus this allows them to meet other likeminded people who they then can create with. Another great advantage to using social media is the alsmost immediate distrobution of national news/warnings/ and alerts, allowing for people to get information much quicker and easier than ever before.

-The Cons-

Social media also has a few set backs that the user must know before signing up for it. Social media has the ability to become addictive and allow for younger users to spend up to eight hours a day perusing the platform which can be devastating to the life of a younger user. Most of the cons of social media have to do with its effects on the youth, such as an increased liklihood of obsession and depression surrounding the platforms. The increased risk of depression comes from the constant self comparisons that come with platforms like instagram and twitter. Social media tends to show the best part of peoples lives and neglects to show the lows, and when the youth begin to see that these other users lives seem more intresting than their own the signs of depression have a much higher chance of appearing.
